kW Engineering has been a trusted partner providing engineering services for the Rocky Mountain Power Wattsmart Business program since 2003. Since 2019, kW Engineering has delivered program and engineering services to Rocky Mountain Power’s large managed accounts, serving as Energy Efficiency Project Managers. Over this period, we have been engaged in over 1,500 unique projects with commercial customers ranging from small, single-measure retrofits to industrial-scale efficiency upgrades.
Rocky Mountain Power set an energy savings target of 280 million kWh for the program between 2019 and 2025; kW Engineering delivered 350 million kWh over that period — exceeding the goal in every one of the seven years — while helping customers secure approximately $39 million in utility incentives and $20 million in monetary savings.
kW’s approach spans what the team calls “boardroom to boiler-room,” with project managers and engineers managing every customer interaction, from program stakeholder coordination through hands-on engineering work. Services include energy audits, retro-commissioning, strategic energy management (SEM), and monitoring-based commissioning focused on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, supported by pre- and post-installation site visits, field data collection, and measurement and verification. Projects have spanned nearly every building type, from offices and hospitals to laboratories, data centers, grocery stores, and hospitality venues.
Efficiency measures delivered through the program span a wide range of building systems, including HVAC equipment replacement, variable air volume systems with variable speed drives, central utility plants, heat pump and VRF systems, building automation and controls upgrades, lighting retrofits, and new construction across commercial, industrial, and data center facilities.
